Presentation: Liliana Navarro

The artist I chose for my presentation is Liliana Navarro, better known as Lili La Artista online. She is a Mexican-American painter based in San Francisco. At only 19 years old, she has managed to grow her online following to around thirty-seven thousand followers on all her social media pages. She mainly paints portraits of women and paintings that capture the Chicano culture.

I found Lili through twitter. One of the many reasons I chose her to do this project, besides her incredible talent, is because she is also a feminist activist, and she aims to bring awareness to issues concerning black people and people of color in America women, the LGBTQ+ community, and also aims to change the art scene that has been dominated by white males. Many of her post that criticize the American and Mexican government, sexual abuse in Hollywood, and racist individuals have gone viral, which have contributed to her online fame. She works with many organizations that help fight these types of issues.

She has been able to display her artwork around the Bay Area since she most sells prints of her original paintings. Many of her paintings have gone viral because they reflect current issues concerning Chicanos in America, but the most viral painting was a self-portrait titled "Brown Warrior," where she emphasizes her indigenous roots. This painting was released when Trump was running for president, which contributed to the success of her piece.
