Extra Credit: City and Cosmos: The Arts of Teotihuacan

Last Friday, I visited the LACMA museum, went to City and Cosmos: The Arts of Teotihuacan exhibition. Teotihuacan is a multi-ethnic, cosmopolitan city in central Mexico. The exhibition consists of artefacts of the three main pyramids in Teotihuacan, namely the Sun, moon, and the Feathered Serpent. I really enjoyed looking at the various sculptures and its intricate details. There were also many different stone masks with precious stones that enliven the eyes and mouths. The greenstones that are carved into masks that represent youthfulness.

Also, one particular structure that stood out for me is called “Circular Relief”. It is part of the Sun Pyramid that is found in 300-450. The sculpture has a skull in the center that is surrounded by folded paper. It was found near the central altar of Sun Plaza, which is in front of the Sun Pyramid.

Overall, it was a great experience visiting the museum. I have always liked visiting museums, there is a sense of nostalgic feeling, as well as a sense of tranquility.
