From the past weeks artist presentations, the women who left a mark on me was Laura Aguilar. I dont know if it was just because she recently passed away, but her artwork was not only beautiful but powerful. Her take on bodies of all shapes and sizes, including herself took courage and confidence. I loves the combination with the nature landscapes and the raw human body. It makes the viewer think about the connection between humans, our environment, earth, and nature. Aguilar’s work on depicting real images of real women is something that has been reproduce in media a lot recently. The ideal body, ideal women, ideal beauty has always been bombarding our lives. She used societies definition to challenge these norms and change her viewers perspective on women. It is sad that something she treats has to be shocking to so many people, but by pioneering by drawing these qualities she is influencing and appreciating our humanity all the more.
