Hi Class, My name is Alexandra Lincoln. But I go by Alex. I am a 4/5th year studying geography. I am from The North East originally, primarily New Jersey and Connecticut. My Dad is from California and I have a lot of family from his side that still lives out here. Moving across the country at a young age was a challenging experience. UCLA in itself has been a challenging experience, but I am grateful for the growth and people I have met out here. I am currently in the process of getting hired by the LA county Fire Department.
Aside from academics, I like to swim, hike, lift, and do yoga for stress relief. I love the water and hope to live by the beach forever. I am looking forward to learning about Chicano culture and art. This is my first Chicano class so I do not know much the culture, history, or art. I am looking forward to learning about artists and appreciating another culture.
The article by Sybil Venegas, “Conditions for Producing Chicana Art” offered a unique perspective on Chicano artists. It was refreshing to see so much unspoken angst written out on paper. There solace in knowing that others have experiences similar to my own. Venegas did a great job at outlining that struggles that Chicano artists face and their influence on cultures today. Their success stories are an inspiration to myself. I look forward to what this class has in store!
