Las Peleoneras (1988), is a lithograph essential to one of Carmen Garza’s lithography
remake of Polvo y Pelo, el Pleito (1987; Figure 2, Appendix
3). In Las Peleoneras (1988), the two main subjects are women are
fighting over a man and have escalated the fight to outside El Rio bar, with an
audience. The significance of this piece is one that can provide “humorous
ruckus from the emotional distance provided by flat areas of color” (Cortez
93). Garza uses this particular technique to create saturation that dramatizes
the situation depicted in the images pertaining to the intensity of the
issue. Lastly, the three-dimensionality of detailing the subjects
incorporated creates a heightened sense of attention to the objects and the
chaos occurring in the image.
