Ofelia Esparza

Ofelia Esparza offered the class so much knowledge and representation of her own culture. She shared her humbled beginnings from East Los Angeles where she shares the idea of “tree of life.” She also mentioned the importance of LA in the context of the village made up of various different cultures. Esparza also shared the way that the altar as a sacred space where a bridging of cultures and communities occur. I was amazed at the way that she shared the meaning behind El Dia de Los Muertos, where to keep remembering those who have passed to continue the legacy of the various things that they have done.
