Ofelia
Esparza offered the class so much knowledge and representation of her own
culture. She shared her humbled beginnings from East Los Angeles where she
shares the idea of “tree of life.” She also mentioned the importance of LA in
the context of the village made up of various different cultures. Esparza also
shared the way that the altar as a sacred space where a bridging of cultures
and communities occur. I was amazed at the way that she shared the meaning
behind El Dia de Los Muertos, where to keep remembering those who have passed to
continue the legacy of the various things that they have done.
