Week 7 Liliana Navarro

My artist I chose was Liliana Navarro. She's an artist based in Northern California. On her artist website she talks about what inspires her work and that includes depicting brown people in her art. She seeks to empower women and also seek representation for minorities. I think her art is very genuine and she creates it not only for herself but for her family.
On her instagram she also posts about importance issues such as inequality and depression. She also lets the followers get an intimate look at her art, even posting progress photos. Her comfort seems to be using acrylics on canvas material. I like her art because it's very genuine. I saw her piece on JuanGa and I thought back to my mom who LOVED this man, but also Liliana wanted to create this piece to celebrate him as a queer fem brown man. This image also has imagery which we can link to some things we discussed in class. Not only does he look fierce but his head is also covered by a saint halo. The roses that frame his face also signify how important roses are in Chicano culture, or in general with Catholicism and the Virgen.
She even has an artist website if you anyone would like to check out her work. She sells prints and canvas bags and very often collaborates with other artists in Norcal. She has done a number of small conventions.
Or even follow her in insta @lordlili
