Extra Credit: Mujeres De Maíz "2020 Vision Prophecy Manifested"

On March 7, 2020, I had the opportunity to attend the Mujeres De Maíz "2020 Vision Prophecy Manifested" exhibition. This was essentially a live art show and festival located in downtown Los Angeles. This live art festival was centered around and honored women of color art pieces. This event included artivist performances by Brown Badass Bonita, Nancy Sanchez, Las Tias and etc. Also, there were stands selling tacos, horchata, agua de Jamaica and ponche. The vibe of the festival was really great, everyone there was super friendly and everyone was bonding over their share of love for art! Now when looking at the art that was displayed throughout the exhibition, there were various art pieces/sections that caught my attention. There was a section dedicated to Dia De Los Muertos skull pieces and every skull was composed of a different pattern, color, and material. Another art section that caught my attention at this exhibition was a series of serigraph printings of various Chicana women posing in candid capturing them creating art. I thought this section was unique because it was art about Chicano women creating art, which is kind of weird when you think about it but super cool at the same time! Overall, I was glad I was able to attend this event and interact with people. I was able to look at various art pieces and art series that honored women of color artworks which is often overlooked in society. It really correlated well with the course and served as a complement to it as well. It's nice to actually see various Chicana artists and their works being displayed in public and exhibitions and getting the recognition they deserve in the art community.
