Week 6: Stencil

I choose to have a bear as my stencil because I wanted an animal that represented strength. I thought about a lion, moose, elephant, whale, but those stencils were difficult to find lol. But seriously, I thought having a bear as my stencil would be fitting because it not only represents strength but also my school, UCLA. I felt that through this image of a bear, I reminded myself of the struggle I had to coming to school, the struggle I have to commute to school; like a bear travels through the blistering snow. This bear not only shows strength but resistance, resilience, all while taking firm steps. A bear is fierce in the face of adversity and that is something that I have learned to have over the years. I have had lots of struggles to just come to this school, from transferring from 7 schools to eventually getting to UCLA. Family struggles I have had to go through, and societal struggles as well. In most cases, as I have seen around my neighborhood, anyone would be easily discouraged to continue a path for greater education and just work; they wouldn't be shamed for it either. But I decided that I was not going to be the same and that I have to do better for myself, my family, and my community. This bear not only entails my school, but all the struggles one faces and still is able to continue. I'm grateful for the opportunities I have been given and will cherish the good and the bad because it makes me the person I am today.
