The artist I choose to present on was Dalila Paola Mendez. I enjoy looking at her photography because it deals with the same themes that I have seen in my life. From families, to the country of Guatemala, her images represent themes of resilience and unity, as well as feminism.
This artist is not a Chicana but is a Latin artist who's roots are from Guatemala. Born in the US, Mendez mentions how she's had an appreciation for her parents homeland. But these are the three images I wanted to present on. The first is of a father steering a canoe through a lake whilst his children are doing their own thing. The second is of a group of women selling produce in Guatemala. I have first had experienced and seen this image and I understand the difficulty there is to sell so much produce in that type of environment. It is difficult, but one comes out stronger and more resilient afterwards. The last image is of a chair on the beach side. This image is interesting because it brings some confusion at first in an environment that is gloomy. Who would sit on a chair when there's nothing to appreciate. Maybe this is a representation of how we should embrace the moments, good and bad, in every state of our lives.
