Week 9

The artist that I really felt spoke to me on another level was non other than the American Chicana artist Judy Baca. I really was drawn to the fact that she is an extremely talented muralist. I always am intrigued by artist that are able to create such larger than life pieces. I for one know I severely lack in proportioning things so the fact that someone can imagine such works but make them giant is always fun to me. I really enjoyed her piece titled "The Great Wall Of Los Angeles. I think her use of colors in this piece are something that really caught my eye. In addition I really appreciated the fact that she is so skilled at creating definition n in her pictures. Her ability to make them seem three dimensional is something not many artist can achieve easily. I think this artist really represents the themes we were hoping to express/ learn during this semester long course. She is someone who was able to chronicle the history of Latin American people in Los Angeles. This mural like many of the others she has created has a huge impact on the Latino/ Chicano citizens and even others. Something I also thought was important is the fact that she was able to organize so many people to create this piece. This is important because it acted as a bonding experience for those involved. It allows those involved to celebrate the hispanic culture and also bond over art.
