Margaret Garcia Artist (Blog 3: Gonzalez, Marina)

Margaret García (1951-present) is a Chicana artist who is known for her murals and oil paintings in the Los Angeles Area.

Early Life and Education:

Margaret Garcia was born in East Los Angeles to Mexican parents in the year 1951. She grew up in Boyle Heights where most of her childhood years were spent at her grandmother’s house because her mother never paid attention to her. It was then, at her grandmother’s house where she was inspired by art. However, one day she came back home from school with a drawing and her father said that she was going to become an artist, so his words inspired her even more and accepted his words from that moment on. Moreso, she studied at the Los Angeles City College, at California State University, Northridge, and at University of Southern California. She received her masters in Fine Art in the year 1992. She has had her work published in various exhibitions all through Southern California, Mexico, and Texas. Her work represents the Chicano art movement, as well as provides a look at the past history.
