Week 10- Reflection

In this course, I believe there is a lot to reflect on. First, I believe that not only did I learn about Chicana/Latina art and artists, I learned to appreciate all art. Before this class, I have not really payed attention to art. The only times that I would look at art work would be because I was re doing my room and wanted to put something on the wall. But, I enjoy looking at different pieces and thinking about the different colors that were used and what it can mean. I also would like to start going to different art shows and looking at the pieces there and maybe can start getting my friends to go with me too so they could also enjoy it. In the course, I also learned a lot about Chicana/Latina history through the art. In high school history class, I feel like this is not discussed enough as it should be, so I am glad I was able to learn more throughout this class. I also enjoyed researching a single artist. I ended up reaching out to mine to find more information, but she never responded. Overall, I really enjoyed this class and feel like a learned a lot of important things.

  1. Hi Kendall, it was very inspiring to me to read that you were able to find so much meaning in the study of visual art. I completely agree that there is so much significance to find in art once the visual language is explained; how color can reflect the mood of a piece, and how the pose of a figure can denote action and momentum across a canvas. I believe studying the art of a political movement, culture, or individual is an excellent way of gaining a deeper understanding of their significance.

  2. Hi Kendall,
I love to hear that you want to start going to different art shows with your friends. I want to do the same once we make it through the pandemic. I use to visit art museums before, but I honestly did not have much knowledge on any Chicanx artists and was not seeking out less acknowledges art. So I can't wait to apply what we have learned in this class and sharing it with my friends as well.

  4. Hi Kendall,

I really enjoyed reading your reflection post and am happy to hear about these newly discovered experiences with art and art context. I find art and an art practice to be this sort of universal language and each individual inflicts this unique attribution to that language in the way art works for them. I hope this interest you're developing continues and has some sort of positive outcome for you, little or big.
