Gloria Anzaldua
Anzaldua is one of my favorite authors. I find her perspective to be complex and reflective of the Chicana experience. She writes about the different identities that she represents in different settings. Her being a pocha to the Mexicans in Mexico and a Mexican in the U.S. Anzaldua also expands on the border culture and how it affected her life. Thinking about the artist I chosen to present on and some of the subjects that Anzaldua focuses on, it makes me think a lot about the idea of transposing, becoming where you are. Adaptation and the importance of remembering your ancestors and your own culture. Much of the art at the border touches on the subject of identity and duality. Being Americanized by exposure and indigenous. The importance of honoring our ancestors and understanding that indigenous cultures still prevail in the Americas. Art at the border, the Chicano park as an example, is a way for to tell their personal stories.
