Week 9 Chicana Futurism

As defined by Catherine S. Ramirez “chicanafuturism” is a cultural transformation in response to the up and coming technological changes. This meaning sounds pretty simple but Ramirez elaborates on the true meaning of this statement. With the example of Martinez, we see how some chicanx artists are incorporating science into their art that displays their spirituality where chicanafuturism helps combine the two. Martinez specifically likes to showcase the traditional art that comes from Indo-Hispanic and New Mexico but with a technological twist. She demonstrates how much of the technological trash has been sent to these places. In other words, she highlights how many of these technological advancements have not been given to chicanx or they have been excluded.

For this reason,  I enjoyed when Ramirez began to explain how almost everyone and all objects contain spirituality and are all connected through some sort of way. Her explanation of the art form goes a long way into explaining how the form of art is very innovative for chicanx people in explaining their spirituality through technology that they may have not been exposed to otherwise.
