This is an artists’ statement from the Chicana art collective Mas Rudas posted in the Journal of Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social, meaning Journal of Active Women in Letters and Social Change. Mas Rudas was created in 2009 by four Chicana women by the names of Ruth Leonela Buentello, Sarah Castillo, Kristin Gamez, and Mari Hernandez. They have created art instillations with their  multi-medium work (such as photography, sculpture work, paintings, videos, performances, audios, and texts). This artists’ statement was meant to put themselves out there in the art world, to explain the meaning of their name and their experiences as Chicanas.
