Gonzalez, Annette (Week 10)

This week we have continued to look at the different presentations regarding the wikipedia artists that each individual classmate has worked on. They were all interesting and very informative. One artist that I enjoyed learning about was Celina Hinojosa and I found the work of the artist very captivating. Hinojosa was born in 1961 and is a Chicana artist. She originally formed part of the artistic world with her learning and contribution to music, as she was a pianist but throughout her journey she was drawn into painting and drawing. She sold one of her first art pieces at the young age of sixteen. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1985 at the University of Texas at Austin. She did not stop there and received her Masters in Fine Arts in 1991 at Texas A & I University. Throughout her career as an artist, she has taken on many different positions such as a lecturer and freelance artist. In the year 1996, she made the decision to officially return back to her desired path and dream: work as a painter. Hinojosa has created various pieces that reflect the everyday life and traditions of those in the Rio Grande Valley. She has her own studio located in San Antonio, Texas called the Celina Hinojosa Fine Art & The San Fernando Studio. I really liked the piece that was displayed in class where the depiction of a woman is shown in the kitchen as she is in the kitchen. The kitchen feels warm and it produces a sense of familiarity with the way in which it resembles much to the one at my home, with the casuelas and kitchen items displayed as so in the painting.
