After looking through Ibarra’s website, it was interesting seeing the different works that she has created and the creativity that came alongside with it. Out of all her works, the video that really stood out to me was the one called La Corrida. It involves Ibarra running across different desert areas that were located around the Chihuahua desert and Rio Grande. The video is able to transmit the feeling of distress and desperation as Ibarra runs through different areas under the hot blazing sun. This to me is Ibarra’s way to bring the audience’s attention through what those who cross the border may feel like as they are under tough conditions running to the other side: the United States. It brings consciousness to the topic. I like the way in which the music correlates well with the video, specifically where Ibarra falls and then picks themselves up. I came to interpret that as a symbol of strength that not only Ibarra carries in that moment to keep pushing forward but also to symbolize the obstacles that many immigrants encounter but continue to move past them and continue their journey. A question I would like to ask Ibarra, is what was the symbolism or meaning behind her choice of attire in the video. One would expect to see a different choice of clothing for the type of journey in this case but Ibarra put their own distinct choice and I wanted to know more about it.
