Week 6: Juana Alicia

Juana Alicia, La Llorona Project, 2004, San Francisco
I focused this week's post response on Renata's presentation on Juana Alicia. She is one of my favorite chicana muralists. This is one of my favorite pieces by here. This mural depicts environmental struggles of womyn all around the world. It illustrates womyn from Bolivia, India and the Mexico-United States border. She foregrounds the Mexican folklore myth of "la llorona" (the woman who drowned her children and is cursed to weep for them). It was interesting to see other works of Juana Alicia. Hopefully I can work closely with her in the future during graduate school.
