WEEK 6 Xandra Ibarra

Xandra Ibarra, also known as "La Chica Boom" is an: artist, educator and activist. Xandra is from El Paso Juarez but continues her work today locally form Oakland CA. Most of her work revolved around LGBT+, as well as racial and gender in-just actions since 2003 in organizations such as INCITE!. From publishing her work in NYC, Mexico, LA, and Colombia.

As an activist, what has been the most difficult piece for you to try to recreate what you wanted to explain?

Above we see, Ibarras art work known as Strobelite Honeys (installation view), 2019 showcased at UC Berkeley. This piece  symbolizes women of color that were once exploited and the rave culture that was prominent in the 1990 in El Paso, Juarez. In the picture we see cheap materials being used such as plaster, costume jewelry, and repurposed fur coats, items that can be associated with night life and partying.
While Ibarra has worked in many different aspects of art, each aspect takes on a different manner and aims towards a different group of people.
