Professora Alicia Gaspar is well known for
her artwork in Chicano/a/x culture as a respected Chicana activist artist
that paved the way for many other Chicanas who were interested in developing
work that would give women a voice. Much of her inspiration came from the
Chicanos Movement and the women’s equal rights movement and contributed to both
as part of the Chicanos/a/x art movement through art that captured the unjust
society many minorities of any kind were facing. During this time in American
and Chicano history, more men were producing art that was given credit to female artists. As a strong feminist artist that has inspired many Chicanas to
continue their creative side and pursue some form of an activist role in their
society, how do you think Chicana feminist artist will capture the issues at
hand as the years go by and on what platforms will individuals be considered
trendsetters for the new generations . These two questions I fathom over
because I think that issues regarding equality for women have improved compared
to half a century ago and I would like to know more about how moving forward
art will be distinguished appropriate for the issue at hand. All art is unique and
more women are contributing to this social movement however how will art work become
popular or influential today. Throughout this class I’ve learned that art is
very important in the development of a new world but what art helps in the
progression.
