2020 Olsen, Eric: Extra Credit- Setting up Mujeres de Maiz Show

March 1st at Self-Help Graphics, I met with Martha and Liliana -elder artists apart of Mujeres de Maiz- and Meagan -the head curator-during preparation for the show '2020 Prophecy Manifested.' I really enjoyed learning from these mujeres who showed me all the works going to be featured in the show and the process of learning about hanging these works in the gallery. From their conversations and helping unwrap, label, and place work in the exhibition space I learned a lot about the organizing required to put together an art show. Self Help Graphics is a wonderful, creative community space that I had never been to before. It offers hands on training and access to creative equipment and tools for creative projects. I really appreciate how their collective centers Latina/Chicana women, girls, and non-binary people who face more barriers in accessing the art world and art making, in general.
