Week 10 Extra Credit Amalia Mesa Bains PH.D ( BrendaBarrios)

Amaila Mesa Bains discusses art activism and social activism in which many women didn't have a place and these women wanted to free their mothers and saw themselves tied. Talks about self-help graphics and shows self-images and discusses a bit about herself and immigration and their lives and their undocumented status and looking to their families for safety. And that safety was in the practices such as family gatherings and her family is working class. And here works is reassuring and asserting spirituality and Coatlicue and others in the community joining. Also discusses community engagement and youth movements will break moments of the nature of history and chicane and black civil rights were of two of those forms. Shows Frida Kahlo’s collective and in ways of which they would work together and share spiritual practices.  And also talks about Ester Hernandez who was a printmaker and one of the first activist feminists who did for the farmworkers. And also discusses Judy Baca who dedicated herself to muralism. I liked the performance peace of the giant tortilla I did a tortilla sculpture.

Reflection: I found that this brought me to further reflect on my artistry if I wanted to do collectives or if I wanted to delve more into history. I find Art activism highly important to me because I think it's powerful in creating change and I think people don't realize this. I also want to study more history because many of the artists in this presentation included in their works rich history which I also think is important.
